For those of you who want to view Flash videos or play Flash games on your Galaxy S4, you probably couldn’t because Samsung decided to co*k-block you.
Well, there’s a simple solution for that.  Although Flash Player doesn’t work on stock S4 browser, you can get it working easily on 3rd-party browsers like Firefox or Boat browser.
*Note – I’ve also tried Dolphin and Chrome browser, it doesn’t work on those browsers. (but in the future it may be possible with a hacked browser on custom ROMs)
**Note – No root required and works on ALL Galaxy S4s including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, GT-i9500, GT-i9505, etc…etc…
Step 1. Download FlashPlayer.apk to your S4.

Step 2. Download browser like Firefox or Boat browser.  I recommend Firefox since it works out of the box without doing anything.

For those of you with Sprint SPH-L720 or GT-i9505 Galaxy S4, you are in luck as ported versions of AOKP ROM is available for each of your devices.
If you don’t know what AOKP ROM is, it’s an AOSP ROM (What is AOSP?) along with added UI customization and more.
Google has announced the launch of Galaxy S4 with pure Android OS, basically AOKP ROM is like that but with much more cool stuff.
If you want to know what AOKP ROM Control Settings can do, read up on our tutorial for that here.
By installing AOKP ROM, you will lose any Samsung TouchWiz features like Smart Scroll, Air Gestures, and even IR remote control capabilities as this is an AOSP ROM. (It may be supported in the future although not guaranteed)
I know many of you who don’t like TouchWiz and want to run pure Android OS. If you are one of those people, definitely this is the custom ROM for you.
Otherwise, you can also make a backup of your current ROM using CWM or TWRP recovery and try it out.
For those of you flasholics, give this AOKP ROM a try this week(end) and do let me know how it works out for you!

For this week’s ROM of the week for the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919, check out Death Star ROm.
Based on latest MDL TouchWiz Android 4.2.2 base, Death Star ROM features a blue theme, center clock, all apps enabled for multi-window, and 5×6 TouchWiz Launcher with scrolling wallpaper that’s been optimized for no lag.
I do like this ROM as I really dig the 5×6 launcher which is enabled for both your homescreen and app drawer.  Also, multi-window enabled for all apps is fantastic since I can get any apps to run in full multi-window mode.  Keyboard is also themed in black and blue.
UPDATE: You can actually remove the widgets from the launcher and then re-add them to make them look correct.
Overall, pretty nicely themed ROM with some great features, this ROM is going to get better as we go along and for those of you can’t wait, try it out this week(end) and do let me know what you think!
Other notable features:
  • Deviant Kernel (Init.d Support)
  • Center clock
  • CIQ free

This video was brought to you by AndroidRoot.org. Click Here to See at AndroidRoot.org
For those of you who want to root your Galaxy S4, here’s another root method using TWRP recovery.
Why another method?
Well, at the time of this video, some models do not have CWM recovery available.  But TWRP recovery is just as good as CWM recovery and installation is nearly identical but using different menus.
You can always switch to CWM recovery after rooting later down the line if you prefer CWM recovery.
This root method works for the following Galaxy S4 models:
  • GT-i9505
  • T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919
  • Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L710
  • Canadia Galaxy S4 (Bell, Rogers, Telus)
  • US Cellular Galaxy S4 SCH-R970
Step 1. Power off your Galaxy S4 then hold down Volume Down, Center Home, and Power buttons together.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-1
Step 2. When you see the warning screen, let go of all the buttons and hit the Volume Up button to enter ODIN download mode.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-2
Step 3. Connect a micro-USB cable from your Galaxy S4 to your computer.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-3
Step 4. Download TWRP recovery for your Galaxy S4.
You will also need the following tools and drivers if you don’t have them already so download them too:
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-4
Step 5. You will need to unzip the ODIN zip file and you will find two files.  Run odin3 v1.85.exe file by double-clicking on it.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-5
Step 6. If you see a yellow-highlighted box, you already have Galaxy S4 drivers installed, skip to next step.  If you don’t see it, run the Samsung USB driver exe file you downloaded earlier then un-plug/re-plug your micro-USB cable to your Galaxy S4.  You should see yellow-highlighted box now.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-6
Step 7. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE but click on PDA button and choose the TWRP recovery file you downloaded earlier.  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED THE CORRECT TWRP RECOVERY FOR YOUR GALAXY S4 MODEL!!!
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-7
Step 8. Hit the Start button and this will flash TWRP recovery onto your Galaxy S4.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-8
Step 9. Once you see “PASS!”, you have successfully flashed TWRP recovery and your phone will reboot.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-9
Step 10. Once your phone reboots, copy the CWM SuperSU zip file you downloaded earlier to anywhere on your Galaxy S4.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-10
Step 11. Next, we will reboot into TWRP recovery we just installed.  Power off your phone then hold down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power buttons together.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-11
Step 12. When you see “recovery booting” in blue text on the top-left hand corner of your screen, let go of all the buttons.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-12
Step 13. Once in TWRP recovery, select “Install”.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-13
Step 14. Choose the CWM SuperSU zip file you copied over earlier.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-14
Step 15. Swipe to right to flash the CWM SuperSU zip file.  This will root your Galaxy S4 by installing SU binaries and SuperSU superuser app.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-15
Step 16. Reboot system.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-16
Step 17. You should find a new app called SuperSU in your app drawer.  Run it once and update the SU binaries if it asks you.
To verify you have full root, you can download and open rooted app like Titanium Backup app, you should see a Superuser request pop-up window.
howto-root-galaxys4-twrpmethod-17
Congratulations, you’ve rooted your phone!
You’ve also installed TWRP recovery, which will allow you to easily backup, restore, and install new ROMs.  Make sure you make at least 1 backup ROM right after rooting.
If you don’t like TWRP, you can usually install ROM Manager from Play Store to flash CWM recovery without using ODIN again easily and also vice-versa back to TWRP by installing TWRP app from Play Store.
Q&A
Q: Why are there two different recoveries CWM and TWRP?
A: Both CWM and TWRP do the same thing, allowing users to backup, restore, and install ROMs.  They are built by different developers with a different interface.
Some people prefer CWM and some people prefer TWRP.
And since CWM recovery isn’t available (at the time of this post) for some S4 models, you can still get full features of CWM recovery using TWRP.
Q: After installing recovery and reboot, I don’t see TWRP recovery just stock recovery, what’s happening?
A: That’s caused by some stock firmwares writing over the TWRP recovery. To get around it, run ODIN again to flash TWRP, then pull battery out when you see “PASS!” in ODIN, then boot straight into recovery by putting the battery back on and using the buttons, you should see TWRP recovery now!
Q: Root is not working on my T-Mobile Galaxy S4 with UVUAMDL firmware!
A: T-Mobile has put a new SetUID restriction on the kernel, you can fix by flashing UVUAMDL kernel with SetUID restriction removed.
Q: Root is not working on my Sprint Galaxy S4 with MDL firmware!
A: Sprint has put a new SetUID restriction on the kernel if you have VPUAMDL build number, you can fix by flashing VPUAMDL kernel with SetUID restriction removed.

Galaxy S4 Reference
You will need a rooted Galaxy S4 to install all ROM/kernels.

Brown Samsung Galaxy S4 makes an appearance in a promo video

Samsung is on the way to add another color option to the range of its flagship smartphone. The new color is brown and it was spotted in the company's latest promo video of the Galaxy S4.
At the official Galaxy S4 press event, Samsung announced it'll launch in two colors - Black Mist and White Frost. Later, a blue version of the smartphone was spotted in Japan.
Just like it, the brown color variation of the Samsung Galaxy S4 isn't yet official, but it will probably debut pretty soon.
Here's the promo video in question if you'd like to catch a glimpse of the brown Galaxy S4 (it's at 1:18 minutes).

Samsung Galaxy S4 Sells 10 Million Units and Announces New Colors

Samsung released data this morning showing that their newest flagship model, the much hyped Galaxy S4, has been a huge success with consumers.  Since its release on April 27, the S4 has sold 10 million units.  To celebrate the milestone, the manufacturer announced the production of a slew of new colors to supplement the stock white and black models that are currently available.
Ten million sales is a pretty impressive benchmark for the Galaxy S4, and reaching it in under a month shows a clear trend of rising popularity for Samsung’s phones.  The S4’s predecessors, the S3 and S2, took 5 and 2 months, respectively, to reach the same level of sales.
Samsung’s Galaxy series is well known for integrating innovative features like Air View and Air Gesture technology, which economize your finger movements and make for a faster, easier experience.  Each model in the series has also boasted impressive hardware, with the S4 feeding its 5-inch AMOLED screen and 13 MP camera with a super fast Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Perhaps intended as a gesture of gratitude to Samsung fans, the company also announced the imminent arrival of several new colors to the S4 line.  The stock White Mist and Black Forest models will soon be accompanied by Blue Arctic, Purple Mirage, and Brown Autumn.  There will also be a Red Aurora model, which is being reported as an AT&T exclusive color.  It should make for an exciting summer for Samsung fans

How to Unbrick Your Bricked Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 & GT-I9505

What is Bricking?

“Brick” is  a very familiar term among all who live in a civilized society but when it is used with reference to an electronic device it becomes one of the most misunderstood things. The term derives from the vaguely cuboid shape of many electronic devices and suggests a state when a device turns into a non-functioning and unusable thing like.
Thus, in the true sense of the word a bricked device is one that is not recoverable through normal means. A smartphone is bricked when its flash memory is completely corrupted and as a result it is unable to boot altogether. The major reason behind “bricking” is a bad flash that damages the existing data preset present on a phone’s system that handle bootloader, radio etc. parameters.
Now, when we talk of the term “brick” for an Android device, it is classified into two types: Hard Brick and Soft Brick. A “hard-brick” is quite unlikely with “normal operations” like rooting or flashing custom ROMs. So, it’s mostly soft brick that is referred to when someone says “Alas, my phone is bricked!”  While your device cannot be recoverable if it is hard-bricked, you can bring it back to life if it is soft-bricked. If you are able to boot your Android device into bootloader, fastboot, download or recovery mode in its non-functioning state, it is rather soft-bricked.
  • Hard Brick Symptoms: Dead screen, no reaction at the press of power button.
  • Soft Brick Symptoms: Device not able to boot and is stuck on the Bootanimation, screen is turned off but it  turns up when the power button or specific key combination is pressed.

Unbricking Samsung Galaxy S4

Since the present tutorial is about “unbricking”  a soft-bricked Galaxy S4, I would limit the topic this device only. There are three ways to recover your Samsung Galaxy S4 if it is soft-bricked.

Recovering Galaxy S4 from a Bootloop:

Bootloop is a state when your phone is not able to boot properly and it is stuck on the Bootanimation  It is the commonest thing that  Android users face with their phone or tablet device and this can be fixed easily by performing certain steps by booting the device into stock or custom recovery mode. Here is our detailed guide that will help you fix bootloop on your Galaxy S4.

By Installing the Official Firmware:

If wiping the data/factory reset, and cache partition does not help you, or you are not able to boot into the Android System or ClockworkMod recovery on your Galaxy S4, you can try installing the official firmware on your phone. Read the following guide that will help you find the correct firmware for your Galaxy S4 and install it safely.

By Flashing Stock Firmware and PIT File:

In case the two methods described above do not bring your Galaxy S4 to normal state, the problem is a little serious but still not out of control. The following method is same as installing the official firmware described above, but it also involves flashing a PIT file along-with the firmware. This file is used to re-partition the corrupt partition on Galaxy devices.
To unbrick your Galaxy S4 follow the steps given below but before installing the firmware, you need to make a little preparation.
  • Download Odin3 tool and unzip it on your desktop: Odin3-V3.07.Zip
  • Download appropriate PIT file for Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 or GT-I9505 (corresponding to your phone model) and extract the zip file on your desktop:
  • Download and install either Samsung Kies or USB Drivers on your computer: Download
  • Download latest correct firmware for your Galaxy S4 and extract the zip: Download
  • Turn on USB Debugging on your Galaxy S4 from Settings> More> Developer Options. If you are unable to see “Developer options” under phone Settings, you’ll have to enable it first. See This Guide to enable the Developer Optionson Galaxy S4.
  • Charge your phone to at least 70% battery level.
Having done the prerequisites, you can now proceed to unbricking your Galaxy S4. Just follow the following steps:
  1. Turn off the device and boot it into Download/Odin Mode. Here is the method: press and hold the Volume Down+Home+Power buttons simultaneously for 2-3 seconds till you see a warning screen. Now press Volume Upkey to enter Download Mode.Galaxy-s4-download-mode
  2. Go to Odin folder and launch Odin3 3.07.
  3. Connect your device using USB cable and wait till the ID:COM port at Odin turns blue and you see “Added!!” on the message box below. This shows that the connection between Odin and your device has been established.
  4. Now click on PDA button, navigate to the firmware folder and select the file with .tar.md5 extension.
  5. Then click on the PIT button, navigate to the PIT folder and select the file with .pit extension.
  6. Make sure that Re-Partition and F Reset Time is selected on Odin. Also, do not forget to uncheck the Auto Rebootoptions.
  7. Your configuration on Odin should look like the following screenshot:unbrick-galaxy-s4-odin-pass
  8. When you are sure that everything has been done correctly, click the Start button on Odin.
  9. Doing this will start the installation and it might take about 2-4 minutes to complete.
  10. When you see PASS! message on Odin, disconnect the USB cable and close Odin.
  11. Now remove  the back cover on your device and pull out the battery. Wait for about 1 minute and then place the battery back to its place.
  12. Boot your Galaxy S4 into Android System Recovery mode: hold Volume Up+Home+Power keys together till the screen turns up and the Samsung logo blinks twice. Then release the Power button but keep Volume Up and Home keyspressed till you see the recovery menu (see below). In recovery mode use the volume keys to scroll and power button to select options:recovery-mode-galaxy-s4
  13. Go to “wipe data/factory reset” option and wipe it.
  14. Then “wipe cache partition”.
  15. Finally, go to “reboot system now” and select it.
Your Galaxy S4 will boot now. Usually, it takes a longer time than usual to boot the device, so wait patiently till you see the Welcome Set Up screen. You know well what to do here.
Here ends our easy and detailed tutorial on unbricking the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 and GT-I9505. If you have anyquestions or your are stuck at a certain step during the procedure, feel free to ask us via comments.
